Website maintenance pricing

How Much Does Website Maintenance Cost in Canada in 2026?

For budgeting purposes, plan on approximately CAD $100 to $500 per month for professional maintenance of many Canadian small-business websites. A relatively simple brochure site may sit near the lower end. An active lead-generation website may require $250 to $750 per month, while ecommerce, high-traffic and technically complex websites can require $500 to $2,500+ per month when the scope includes development time, staging, monitoring and emergency support.

These are Webbies planning ranges synthesized from publicly listed Canadian plans—not an official Canadian average, a binding quote or Webbies package pricing. The same “website maintenance” label can describe automated updates at one provider and tested updates, content changes, development hours, hosting and recovery support at another.

All figures on this page are in Canadian dollars and exclude applicable tax. Hosting, premium licences, support time and emergency work may be included or separate. Compare the scope before comparing the monthly number.

Canadian planning ranges

Website Maintenance Cost by Site Type

Monthly and annual website maintenance planning ranges in Canadian dollars
Website typeMonthly planning rangeAnnual planning rangeWhat usually drives the work
Simple brochure website$100–$300$1,200–$3,600Updates, backups, monitoring, form checks and occasional small changes
Active lead-generation website$250–$750$3,000–$9,000Landing pages, forms, plugins or apps, staging, regular changes and faster support
Content-heavy or multi-location website$400–$1,250$4,800–$15,000More templates, publishing, redirects, integrations, user roles and quality control
Ecommerce, booking or membership website$500–$2,500+$6,000–$30,000+Payments, customer data, transactions, apps, traffic risk and urgent testing
Custom or integration-heavy websiteFrom $1,000; custom quoteFrom $12,000Custom code, APIs, deployment controls, infrastructure and specialist support

The overlap is intentional. Page count alone does not determine the cost. A five-page website connected to paid campaigns, appointment systems or lead routing can be more business-critical than a much larger informational website.

Pricing methodology

How These Pricing Ranges Were Prepared

Checked August 8, 2026

We reviewed publicly listed Canadian maintenance plans and compared the work included at each price. This was a market sample, not a national survey.

GlobeSign

$149–$399/month

Plans include increasing content or design time; ecommerce is in the higher tier.

View published plans

Marvel Marketing

$200–$800/month

Scope expands from WordPress upkeep to custom-code and advanced hosting support.

View published plans

These published plans are not directly interchangeable. Some include hosting, some include content or development time, and some are WordPress-specific. The site-type ranges above are rounded planning bands based on service depth and website risk. Recheck each provider’s current currency, inclusions, setup fees and terms before relying on its price.

The defining cost model

What “Website Maintenance” Actually Means

The clearest way to compare quotes is to separate ongoing website costs into four layers. The monthly number may contain one, several or all four.

Cost contribution varies by website and agreement

Infrastructure

Infrastructure keeps the website available. It can include the domain, hosting, server resources, SSL certificate, content delivery network, business email and platform subscription.

These costs exist even if no one actively maintains the website. A host may keep the server running and create backups without testing your forms, reviewing integrations or fixing a layout that broke after a software change.

Software and licences

WordPress themes and plugins, Shopify apps, booking systems, accessibility tools, form services, analytics products and other software may charge monthly or annual fees.

Ask who owns each licence, whether renewals are included and what happens when the maintenance agreement ends. An inexpensive plan can become costly when essential licences are billed separately or remain under an account the business does not control.

Preventative technical care

Preventative care includes backups, tested updates, uptime monitoring, security checks, form testing, compatibility checks and routine technical review.

This is where an automated update subscription differs from managed maintenance. Official WordPress update guidance recommends backing up before updating so the site can be restored if a problem occurs. For a business-critical website, a safe process may also require staging, post-update checks and confirmation that a usable restore path exists.

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security recommends patching applications, backing up data and regularly testing that backups can be restored. Those are operational controls, not merely housekeeping tasks.

Business changes and recovery

This layer is the human work beyond routine checks: editing content, building a landing page, correcting a form, fixing a conflict, responding to malware, restoring a failed website or preparing hosting capacity for a campaign.

It creates many of the largest price differences. One provider may include development time and recovery; another may invoice every request separately. Ask how much work is included, whether unused time carries forward and what happens when a task exceeds the plan.

First-hand maintenance experience

What Maintenance Problems Look Like in Practice

Across websites Webbies has supported, we have handled plugin conflicts that caused pages or functions to fail, bot traffic that consumed server resources, and advertising campaigns that sent more visitors than the existing hosting environment could handle.

Symptom

Page or function fails

Diagnosis

Plugin conflict

Response

Rollback, compatibility testing and a corrected update path

Symptom

Site is slow or unavailable

Diagnosis

Bot traffic consumes resources

Response

Filtering plus a security or server-level response

Symptom

Campaign landing pages fail under load

Diagnosis

Traffic exceeds the environment

Response

Capacity, caching or hosting-configuration review

Clicking “update,” buying more hosting and restoring a backup are not interchangeable solutions. The visible symptom does not identify the cause. Useful maintenance combines prevention with diagnosis.

Webbies supports websites built by other providers as well as websites we build, including WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace and custom-built platforms. Before accepting responsibility for an existing site, the scope should be based on its technology, hosting, dependencies, access, traffic and current condition.

Pricing drivers

What Changes the Monthly Cost?

The same page count can produce very different maintenance requirements.

What happens to the business if the site, form or checkout is unavailable for a day?
01

Platform and technical complexity

Hosted platforms such as Shopify, Wix and Squarespace manage more of the underlying infrastructure. That reduces some routine work, but custom themes, apps, tracking, forms and business workflows still need ownership and testing. A self-hosted or custom-built website provides more control and may require more direct technical oversight.

The platform name alone does not determine the price. A clean custom website with good documentation may be easier to support than an older page-builder site with many abandoned plugins.

02

Important plugins, apps and integrations

Forms, payments, inventory, CRM connections, calendars, analytics and marketing automation introduce separate vendors and possible failure points. What matters is not only how many dependencies exist, but how essential they are, how they interact and whether the maintenance provider can diagnose them.

03

Frequency of content and development changes

A site updated twice a year needs a different arrangement from one publishing weekly articles, launching promotions, adding products or building campaign pages. Included human work usually affects price more than automated update checks.

04

Business consequence of failure

If the website is a main source of enquiries, bookings or sales, response and recovery time matter. A failed checkout or advertising landing page can interrupt revenue immediately.

05

Traffic, hosting resources and response time

Paid campaigns, seasonal demand, viral posts and bot traffic can expose bandwidth, memory or server limits that are invisible during normal periods. Monitoring also does not guarantee immediate repair. The agreement should state who receives alerts, when support is available, what counts as an emergency and whether its response time means acknowledgement or resolution.

Choose the support model

DIY, Pay-As-You-Go, Freelancer or Managed Plan?

Move from more responsibility carried by the owner toward more responsibility reserved with a provider. The right point depends on risk, time and required availability.

  1. 01

    DIY

Best for: Simple, low-risk sites with a technically capable owner.

Advantage: Lowest direct service cost and full control.

Limitation: The owner carries the testing, security, recovery and time burden.

  2. 02

    Pay-as-you-go

Best for: Stable sites with rare, non-urgent changes.

    Advantage: No recurring support fee.

Limitation: Availability is not reserved and emergency diagnosis may cost more than expected.

  3. 03

    Freelancer support

Best for: Sites needing a familiar technical person and moderate work.

Advantage: Flexible access to individual expertise.

Limitation: Coverage may depend on one person’s availability.

  4. 04

    Managed maintenance plan

Best for: Lead-generating, ecommerce, active or complex websites.

Advantage: Preventative care, defined scope and an escalation path.

Limitation: Higher recurring cost; value depends on the agreement.

DIY is realistic when the site is simple, hosting is dependable, access is organized and someone can restore it safely. Pay-as-you-go support can work when downtime is tolerable. A managed plan becomes more useful when the website changes frequently, has important dependencies or directly supports sales and enquiries.

Quote scorecard

How to Compare Website Maintenance Quotes

A useful quote should define responsibility before something goes wrong.

Backups
Frequency, storage, retention and whether restoration is tested
Updates
What is updated, cadence, whether staging is used and what is checked afterward
Monitoring
What is monitored, who receives alerts and what action follows
Security
Scanning, access controls, patching, malware response and exclusions
Support time
Included hours or tasks, response window, rollover and additional rates
Content and development
Included changes and where separate estimates begin
Emergency response
What qualifies as urgent, availability and whether recovery is included
Hosting and licences
Inclusions, renewal pricing and account ownership
Reporting
What was checked, what changed and what still needs attention
Exit and ownership
Access, files, backups and licences supplied when the agreement ends
Watch for: “Updates and security” with no definition, “unlimited changes” with no task limits, uptime monitoring with no assigned responder, or emergency recovery left undefined. Confirm currency, tax, setup fees, renewal terms and account ownership.

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security advises organizations to test backups regularly to confirm that data can be restored. “Daily backups” are not enough if no one knows whether the required version is current, accessible and usable during recovery.

A monthly plan is more likely worthwhile when…

The website carries active business risk.

It produces leads, bookings or sales; uses important integrations; changes frequently; supports advertising; stores important data; or requires fast support when something fails.

A lighter arrangement may be enough when…

The site is simple and failure is tolerable.

A large plan may not be justified for a small static site with dependable managed hosting, few dependencies and almost no changes. A lighter preventative plan or pay-as-you-go arrangement may be enough if the owner still knows who will respond during an outage.

The goal is not to buy the largest package. It is to match the support model to the business consequence of failure.

A scope built around the real site

Not Sure What Your Website Actually Needs?

A maintenance quote should begin with the website you have, not a generic package chart.

Webbies can review your platform, hosting, software dependencies, backup and recovery setup, access ownership, traffic pattern and ongoing change requirements. We will identify what the platform or host already handles, where human oversight is still needed and which support model reasonably fits the site.

Webbies can support existing third-party websites as well as websites we build. Depending on the agreed scope, maintenance can include hosting, backups, software updates, uptime and security monitoring, staging, content or development work, and emergency or malware recovery.
